Alexei

Alexei Sunkawasti

Alexei is a dedicated and competitive athlete with Special Olympics Regina. He has participated in Special Olympics since he was 6 years old in FUNdamentals. Alexei has now been participating in Special Olympics for the last 17 years in a variety of sports such as bowling, soccer, golf, floor hockey, basketball, weightlifting, volleyball, and baseball.

During the pause in programming, Alexei has been staying active by cycling, working out at the gym and he loves to cook! Alexei also plays the piano, sings, and dances powwow.

His competitiveness pushes him to do his best in whatever he does, from sports to school and extracurricular activities. Alexei is an all-around excellent young man and team player. Congratulations Alexei on being named the Wheaton Kia Spotlight Athlete of the Month!

Chris-Beckett

Chris Beckett

Chris has been involved with Special Olympics Saskatchewan for 20 years. He enjoys bowling and the social aspect of the sport, being with friends and making new ones. Chris will be traveling to Thunder Bay to compete in the 2020 National Games and is excited to represent Saskatchewan! He also recently completed Athlete Speaker Training, a component of the Athlete Leadership Program, and delivered an awesome speech to many of his peers. Congratulations Chris on being the Wheaton Kia Spotlight Athlete of the month!

Jon Mudryk

Jon Mudryk

Currently, Jon has a limited ability to participate in sports but is very keen to be a part of a team. His health issues have not stopped his enthusiasm or willingness to help in any way to the team's success. He takes each task with eagerness and drive to show his teammates that you need to give everything you have to reach your goals. Off the field Jon is a 'fireball' and wants to learn more by asking questions and striving to become a better athlete and person. Jon is a great ambassador for Special Olympics in his desire to be the best you can, but more importantly, he is a first-class citizen who upholds the Special Olympics athlete's oath "let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt". Congratulations Jon on being this month's Wheaton Kia Spotlight Athlete of the Month.

Carl Paulhus

Carl has gone above and beyond as an athlete representative on the Special Olympics Moose Jaw Community Executive Committee this year. He volunteers in every event and consistently attends meetings throughout the year. He is very professional in bringing forward athlete concerns and shows great sportsmanship at practices. He is passionate about seeing Special Olympics Moose Jaw grow. Congratulations Carl on being selected as this Month's Wheaton Kia Spotlight Athlete of the Month!

Kolby Arlitt

Kolby has been involved with Special Olympics for 7 years. He is always excited to represent Special Olympics and does fundraising in his community by doing bake sales and helping out where ever he can. He likes meeting and making friends through Special Olympics events. He has a heart of gold and always makes people smile. Addison Czaya-Woolly

Addison has been involved with Special Olympics for 15 years. Recently, Addison competed at the World Games in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in Athletics. She is a strong advocate for Special Olympics and has volunteered to take part in many National campaigns promoting Special Olympics. She trains hard and continues to do the work that is needed to better herself in her sports. Through sport, she has gained confidence, particularly in her willingness to speak without being prompted. Tracy Merkosky

Every week Tracy attends her sports with enthusiasm and a desire to learn something new! A timid swimmer at the beginning of the year, by the end she was doing cannonballs! Tracy participated in the local Multi K 5 km race last year and hopes to do it again. She is very welcoming and livens up every event. She loves to promote Special Olympics and she makes sure her fellow athletes are having as much fun as she is! Congratulations Tracy!

Brayden Mcneil

Brayden Mcneil

Brayden has been involved in Special Olympics for nine years and loves competing in many different sports. He likes to make new friends and have fun while doing so. Special Olympics will always be an important part of Brayden. His most recent success was bringing home a Gold medal in softball from the 2018 Summer Games in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Brayden’s goal is to one day make Team Canada and travel to Worlds. When Brayden isn’t busy with sports he works at the Innovation Cafe on the U of R campus. He loves cooking and making new foods. He also finds time to take guitar lessons and play in a Rock Band weekly! Keep up the amazing work Brayden and good luck at your next competition!

Vicki Machniak

We would like to congratulate Vicki Machniak for being selected as the February Wheaton Kia Spotlight Athlete of the Month! Vicki participates in Synchronized Swimming and is a team member of the Battlefords Water Doves. She competes several times a year at provincial or inter-provincial meets. Vicki is a hard-working athlete who takes her training seriously and is very proud of her swimming abilities. Congratulations Vicki!

Tyler Gilbert

Tyler is a Saskatoon athlete that has been involved with Special Olympics for 28 years! He has competed at the Provincial, National and World Games level. This past Summer, Tyler travelled to Antigonish, Nova Scotia to compete at the National Games. He has also travelled to both South Korea and Austria to represent Canada at the World Games. Tyler’s work ethic and dedication to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is evident in the vast variety of sports he participates in. Congratulations Tyler on being selected as the Wheaton Kia Spotlight Athlete of the month!

Aerial is a Weyburn athlete who has been participating in Special Olympics for three years. She is very dedicated to a variety of sports including bowling, curling and floor hockey. Aerial has a great attitude and is always supportive of other athletes. She has also volunteered to sit on the Special Olympics Weyburn Board as the Athlete Representative. In her spare time, she loves to crochet or attend the Weyburn Red Wings hockey games. You may also find her at the A&W, where she works.
