Chevrolet Equinox vs. Kia Sportage and Sorento

The Sorento holds true to the Kia quality standard and slogan “the power to surprise” taking the #1 IQS spot away from the competition in 2017 (moving up from #2 in 2016). While being an award winner of IIHS “Top Safety Pick” every year since 2016; the Sorento has been accredited with a 5-star Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (2016-2017), Red Dot Design Honorable Mention Award in 2016, and Automobile Journalists Association of Canada’s (AJAC) “Best New SUV” in 2016.

Warranty

Kia offers a standard 5-year 100,000km full comprehensive warranty and 5-year Unlimited km Roadside Assistance giving you peace of mind over and above Kias consistently proven quality. That is a full 2 years and 40,000 km warranty over Chevrolets 3 year 60,000 km warranty. Not to mention, that’s a savings value of up to $2500.00 on your warranty if you choose a quality Kia!

Equipment

When it comes to features offered in the Kia Sportage, comfort isn’t an issue. The heated front and rear seating, optional air-cooled front seats and power adjustable seating means you and all of your passengers can have what they want. The available panoramic sunroof keeps things bright, while you enjoy your favourite apps and navigation with the Apple Carplay or Android Auto smartphone integration. Prioritize safety with Blindspot Detection, and Lane Departure Warning. These are features you won’t find on the Equinox without a hefty upgrade charge to its already top trim levels.

Standard features on the Sportage, like fog lights, heated driver/passenger side mirrors, and voice activated audio controls are a few more things you won’t find in the Equinox without moving up in trim.

The Sorento adds to the list of already impressive features the Sportage has to offer by giving a birds eye view of your Kia with the 360 degree camera monitoring system, keeping your surroundings in clear view. Load up the whole family with the available 7 passenger seating and a beautiful premium nappa leather interior. You’ll feel like you’re hearing it live with the crystal clear sound quality of the 10 speaker Infinity premium audio system. And when your hands are full, let the tailgate lift itself hands free/gesture free with the key fob sensing smart release hatch. If you were hoping to find these features and more on the Equinox, you will find yourself disappointed.

Performance

Sometimes features just aren’t enough to keep us satisfied so in some cases searching for power comes top of mind over and above the equipment. Kia likes to asks why can’t you have both? With the Sorentos 2.0 turbo engine pumping out 240 HP and the 3.3 L V6 topping out at 290 HP. You will leave the Chevrolet Equinox in the dust with its maximum 252 HP 2 L and lower 170 HP 1.5 L engine. When it comes to towing capacity there is no compromise and the Sportage owns the Equinox adding an extra 500 lbs of towing capability (Sportage 2,000 lbs, Equinox 1,500 lbs). The Sorento continues the tug-o-war with 5,000 lbs for the V6 and 3,500 lbs for the 2.0 turbo model.

Before you make a final decision, come on down for a test drive! You’ll be happy you did!
